Retroprose

A British English spell checker and thesaurus

Retroprose checks UK spelling as you type. The spell check and a British thesaurus run on your device, so no text is sent away to be checked.

Spell check in Retroprose: a misspelt word highlighted, with a box under it listing suggestions and the choices Skip, Skip all and Add to word list.
Ctrl+F2 checks the whole document, one word at a time.

UK spell check

A UK English dictionary, which also accepts Oxford spellings such as organize. Unknown words get a wavy underline. Right-click one, or press Shift+F10, for up to five suggestions. Add names and words of your own to a word list of up to 5,000.

British thesaurus

About 141,000 words, grouped by meaning, with British spellings. Alt+F1 looks up the word at the cursor, and a letter swaps in the word you choose. Hoped finds hope and went finds go.

On your device

The dictionaries run in your browser, so your text never leaves your device. The thesaurus loads one letter at a time, so the server never knows which word you looked up. Both work offline, the thesaurus for any letter you have used before.
