Retroprose saves your writing as plain Markdown, but you never have to type a mark. Press F6 for bold or choose a heading from a menu, and the Markdown is written for you.

Plain Markdown
Every document is a standard Markdown file, with tables and footnotes. Plain text opens in any program, now or in 30 years.
Format with keys
Bold and italic are F6 and F8, or Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I. Headings, lists, tables, links and footnotes have keys and menu items too. The marks are dimmed on screen. Press F9 to see them as classic codes, such as [BOLD] and [Head 1].
Upload and download
Upload .md files, or turn a Word file into Markdown. Download any document as a .md file, or export it to Word, PDF, OpenDocument, HTML or plain text.
Questions
Do I need to know Markdown?
No. Every format has a key and a menu item, and Retroprose writes the marks. If you know Markdown, type it as usual.
Can I convert Markdown to Word?
Yes. Upload a .md file, or write in Retroprose, then export it as a Word file with a free account. Footnotes become real Word footnotes.
Can I open my files in other Markdown editors?
Yes. Download any document as a .md file, a folder as a zip, or all your writing at once.
