You must not use another person's account.
You can delete your account at any time from the account page. This deletes your account and your writing. Our privacy notice explains how we handle your personal information.
We may disable your account if, in our reasonable opinion, you have broken these terms.
8. International users
Retroprose is for everyone, wherever you live. You are responsible for making sure your use of it is lawful where you live.
9. Our software and content
Retroprose, including its code, design, text and artwork, belongs to us or our licensors. It is protected by UK and international intellectual property laws.
You may use Retroprose in your web browser or as an installed app, for your own writing. You may not copy it, resell it or offer it as part of another service without our written permission.
The Retroprose importer for WordPress is free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. Retroprose also uses fonts, word lists and software made by others, under their own licences. The About screen in the editor lists them.
Nothing in these terms affects the exceptions to copyright in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
10. Your writing
Your writing belongs to you. You keep all rights in it, including copyright.
You let us store, copy, back up and convert your writing only so we can run Retroprose for you, for example to save it and make the exports you ask for. This ends when you delete it.
Your writing is private to you. We do not read it, sell it, share it or use it to train AI.
You are responsible for your writing. Anything you write in, or upload to, Retroprose must not break the law where you live. This includes, for example, content that:
- is illegal to have or to share
- infringes someone else's copyright or other rights
- is defamatory
- breaches someone else's privacy or confidence
You must also have the right to keep and publish your writing.
Please keep your own copies of your writing. You can download it from the account page at any time. We are not responsible for writing that is lost.
11. No scraping or data mining
You must not use bots, scrapers or data mining tools on Retroprose, apart from the Retroprose importer for WordPress. You must not use any part of Retroprose to develop or train AI models.
12. Links to Retroprose
You may link to any page on retroprose.com. Links must be fair and lawful, and must not suggest we endorse you or are connected with you when we are not. You must not use our logo without our written permission.
13. Links to other sites
Retroprose may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content.
If you connect a WordPress site to Retroprose, documents you send to it are managed by that site, not by us.
14. Disclaimers
The spelling checker and thesaurus in Retroprose use older word lists, in keeping with its retro style. We do not update them, so they may miss newer words, spellings and meanings, and may suggest words that are now out of date. You can add your own words to the spelling checker.
The spelling checker, thesaurus and writing stats are aids only. Please check your own writing before you rely on it.
15. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
If you are a consumer, we are not liable for any business losses.
If you use Retroprose for business purposes, as far as the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of it.
16. Viruses and security
We take reasonable care to keep Retroprose secure and free from viruses. You are responsible for protecting your own devices and data.
You must not:
- upload viruses or other harmful code
- try to get into any part of Retroprose, or its servers, that you are not allowed to access
- attack or overload Retroprose
Doing any of these may be a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. If it happens, we may report it to the police.
17. Acceptable use
You must use Retroprose lawfully, in line with the law where you live. You must not use it for anything unlawful or fraudulent, or to get into anyone else's account or writing. Section 10 sets out the rules for your writing.
If you break these terms, we may:
- give you a written warning
- suspend or close your account
- recover reasonable costs caused by your breach
- share information with the police where the law requires it
18. Your personal information
We only use your personal information as set out in our privacy notice.
19. Emails from us
We may email you important notices about Retroprose, these terms or your account. We will not send you marketing emails unless you agree to them. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time.
20. Transferring these terms
We may transfer these terms to another business, for example if we sell Retroprose. If we do, we will tell you, and your rights will not be affected.
21. Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland.
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of Scotland, England and Wales, or Northern Ireland, depending on where you live.
If you use Retroprose for business purposes, the courts of Scotland have exclusive jurisdiction.
