Write a book online
Write a novel, a memoir or non-fiction in your browser. Keep a document for each chapter, set a word goal, and send the finished book to your editor as a Word file.
A folder for the book
Keep the book in a folder, with folders inside for parts, research and notes. Name the chapters 01, 02 and so on, and they sort in order. Each chapter opens with the cursor where you stopped, on any device.
Word goals
Give a chapter a goal of 4,000 words, and a small bar at the top of the screen fills as you write. Set a daily goal, and watch your streak on the dashboard. Only words you type count.
The finished book
Export any chapter as Word, PDF or OpenDocument, free on every edition. On the Zip disk and hard disk editions, a folder becomes a book, with each document a chapter, as an EPUB or an A5 PDF.
Questions
Can I write a book online for free?
Yes. The floppy disk edition is free, with 1.44 MB of room, about 240,000 words of plain text. Older versions of each document take some of that room too. Every chapter exports to Word, PDF or OpenDocument.
Can I make an EPUB of my book?
Yes, on the Zip disk and hard disk editions. Export a folder as a book, and each document becomes a chapter, with a cover, a title page and a contents page.
What if I lose a chapter?
Retroprose saves two seconds after you stop typing and keeps older versions: 10 of each document, or 50 on the larger editions. Anything you delete waits in the trash for 30 days.
